I have always thought of writing a self-improvement book, titled "A Ladder".
Oh well, in my blog maybe I can put it as a synopsis.
What is a ladder? From Oxford English Minidictionary: "a set of crossbars between uprights, used for climbing up; a series of ascending stages in a career etc....;
Therefore, to go up, you need to look for an equipment to help you to ascend, and that is to look for a ladder. If you want to go up in a career, do you want to wait for someone to give you, a ladder. You have to look for it, analyse the place where you are. If you just sit down and do nothing, you will forever at the bottom. You will only look up at the wall, and forever wondering what is beyond it.
Let's say, you have found your ladder, you have to decide which wall you want to put it, leaning against which wall. The best for which It will help you most. That will be hard!!! Because you may find yourself going up the wrong wall.
If you are leading, and you are at the top of the wall, you look around, it will be frustrating to yell, "It is the wrong wall"
Moreover, if you are leaning against a wrong wall, every step you take, will put you nearer to the wrong place faster.
I also forgot to mention that you may find a small ladder for which you may not reach the top. You just grab the nearest ladder, without thinking of height of the wall and the length of the ladder. when you reach the top of the ladder, you found you are short of few rungs, you are not there!! What a waste of effort!!
Be it your career or your decision as a leader, it has profound effect, if one is not careful in selecting and in leaning the ladder
